Our Story

Although formed in July 2016, Nuti Hart, LLP is a law firm over 20 years in the making.  The principals, Greg Nuti and Chris Hart are each natives of the East Bay, born and bred.  Both attended local high schools and after law school returned to the Oakland area to start families.  In 1997, they met while working for a San Francisco-based law firm.  There, Greg focused on commercial law and bankruptcy.

Chris began his career as a business litigator representing banks, auto finance companies and non-traditional lenders.  His focus was on pre-judgment remedies, commercial collections, and class action defense including claims under California’s Business & Professions Code §17200.  He moved to focusing on business litigation and complex transactions.

By 2001, the pair had moved to a small bankruptcy firm in San Francisco.  There, another lawyer with long time East Bay roots, Kevin Coleman, joined as the third member of the team.  Kevin had a wealth of bankruptcy experience beginning in 1994 when he clerked for the Honorable Mitchell Goldberg and then the Honorable Lynn Riddle.  This was the era of the dot.coms, or as it was affectionately known in the industry the “dot.bombs.”  The group represented every entity in the bankruptcy process and gained experience across all disciplines of debt restructuring.   

In 2007, the group approached Philadelphia-based firm Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, about establishing a restructuring/bankruptcy litigation practice-group in San Francisco.  There Greg, Kevin and Chris continued in their various specialties.   

By 2016, the group was ready for a new challenge.  Yes, there were fond memories of the years in San Francisco.  But was it really necessary to withstand the daily commute to the City?  After much soul searching, the answer was a resounding ‘no.’  So the practice was moved to a new spot that was remarkably familiar – downtown Oakland.  Nuti Hart LLP is a homecoming to Oakland’s burgeoning business community.  Moving across the Bay and leaving the large firm overhead, we can offer an efficient and cost-effective solution for our clients.

Together, the Nuti Hart team has the breadth of knowledge and experience comparable to a big firm’s Bankruptcy, Restructuring and Creditors’ Rights practice group. With our scaled-down boutique format, we also now have the agility to more directly address our clients’ needs. We are a hands-on team, who enjoys working together with our clients. To us, our clients’ stories are as important as our own, and we are honored to be a part of them.
